UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will get worn out and will require replacement. When replacing them, it is crucial that the new handles conform to the dimensions of the old handle.

The handles are inline, and they use the same screws and spindle to secure them. They can be easily mounted on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

Lever Pad

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in several finishes like White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This gives the handle the best performance and long-lasting durability for the purpose it was designed for.

All UPVC handle lever pads come with a spindle, screws and can be mounted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger handle, which is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which eliminate the issue of victorian door handle handles that sag out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.

When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is important to match the PZ dimensions of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the right handles and hinges.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you need for your doors. Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but they can also be found on other types of door. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with both internal and external doors generally needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is vital. It depends on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, exterior doors require a more secure cylinder whilst internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that increase security, for instance, anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can take it out of it. It is essential to avoid having a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

Most modern cylinders are constructed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in a different direction. This helps stop the attack and protect your doors.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is an increasingly common kind of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is attacked with a special tool to snap off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a break-in which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned in the base of your door brompton carry handle's backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after using. There was a time when handles did not have a spring built into them, and without it they are more likely to slide or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is removed. These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They are not compatible with unsprung handles and you'll need to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. They are sold as a single unit. They have a square-cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
