The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, best robot hoover and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
