A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-road terrain and provides a smooth ride for baby. They are also simpler to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or seat units that are positioned tightly in the frame to provide the most efficient geometry and distribution of weight.

They are also great for jogging, as they have built-in suspension and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. The downside is that they're quite heavy to push.

It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards and fits into a the boot of a car that is small. It can also be used as a pram, with an infant car seat for infants and toddlers.

Fabric slings are positioned inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design has a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you cannot overestimate how often you'll do this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

There are a myriad of options for seating in three wheelers. The carrycot included is ideal for a baby (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older infants and toddlers will appreciate the large and comfortable seat unit with adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats aren't fully reclined however, they can be adjusted to the lowest position that will still allow your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A fabric sling is also available. It's a benefit that it is positioned inside the frame, rather than on top as a modular seat. This creates a lower center of gravity, with a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with the obstacles.

This kind of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other useful features like an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be placed in front of occupants to increase safety on rough terrain.

The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from day dot as a single buggy, and later transformed into twin buggies when your baby is walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are made to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. They're commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an exceptional ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to navigate the kerbs as well as other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain and will need to have their air pressure maintained regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, so you should always have a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres are typically found on pushchairs as they are less expensive than air-filled tyres, but they are equally robust. You can identify PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also slide well on even and tied surfaces.
