WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item upgrader kit level by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item level upgrade upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no Item Level Upgrade upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade item costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade item process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
