French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Melding form with function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open to an expansive fridge on the top and a freezer drawer beneath. Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the rest.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.

Aside from that blip the fridge is a great option. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it can hold a decent amount of frozen food in comparison to similar models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on what you would expect from the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It also has a decent-sized icemaker that is tucked away in the left door, but it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create customized storage layout for the items you need to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. The LED lighting is an appealing feature. The in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls so you can set them for Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and offers a ton of customization options. It also gives you notifications when a door is left open, when the refrigerator or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be great if GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill, an option that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to select the number of cups they would like to disperse. It also has an indicator on the display of the fridge to display how much water have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise fill.

The fridge was rated the Best french door fridge freezer refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for a few reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at just a few degrees Fahrenheit and never fluctuating by more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to preventing freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is a household name known for its high-end appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch counter depth refrigerator is one of them. The fridge is expensive however, it offers excellent features and functionality at a reasonable cost.

It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. You might need to be creative with tall items because the fridge has a limited shelf space. The shelves are not resistant to spills and are easily stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great option for those who need lots of space within an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features the standard french door fridge used-door layout, with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door, two rows of spill-capture shelves and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for tall items. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker, making it easy to transfer the ice when needed. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of items. It also has a huge bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional container for storing ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple method to keep track of your fridge and manage it, particularly when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we tried. This is likely due to the bigger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people have a hard time closing them without slamming. It would have been much better if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those looking to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a little less than the most expensive counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, making it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice if you want a French-door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It has a simple design that's not as striking visually as some of the competition however it comes with enough features to make it a good option. Its most important feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a large ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect part of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can store foods that need extra attention. You can alter this feature using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance however it doesn't rank among the best french fridge freezer uk in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
