The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can autonomous vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.

Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or automatic vacuum cleaner and mop that has a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
