WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item level upgrade owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item upgrades's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item upgrader kit level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if the items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item upgrader Kit level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
