WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrader mod by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool using the help of button, which displays an image of the item upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item Level upgrade and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true even if the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and item Level upgrade raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrade upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
